He had felt it in his bones and today’s victory in Polignano a Mare, Italy, ahead of nine-times world champion Orlando Duque (COL) and Gary Hunt (GBR) proved him right. After the Englishman’s three consecutive wins in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2010, the Russian claimed the highest score in front of 45,000 enthusiastic fans.

Remember way back to the high dive in elementary school, you were scared to jump, too many variables, too many things that could go wrong. But you did it. Now try to imagine that same high dive over 90 feet tall. The extraordinary height with strong winds can really challenge the body and the mind. One must be committed physically, and have the ability to face fear in the eye. Gary Hunt showed France that he has that ability by starting his dive upside down on the edge of a 27.5 meter platform.

On May 15th the historic port of La Rochelle, France hosted the first event of the distinguished Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. With 50,000 spectators cheering on, Gary Hunt was able to bring it home on the high dive with jaw-dropping aerials from the Saint Nicholas Tower. Orlando Duque (COL) and Kent De Mond (USA) followed Hunt on the over 90foot (27.5 meters) diving platform with second and third place respectively.
