What makes Adam stand out is that he plays one of the toughest positions on the field with only one leg. Because of cancer, he had his left leg amputated when he was one. While the US is embroiled in a debate over restricting illegal immigrants, the gates have been flung open for one special category of foreigners: professional baseball players.
Players from more than 40 countries can be found on professional playing fields all across the US, and one in three players in the major leagues are now foreigners.
Al Jazeera’s Tom Ackerman reports from Texas.

= = = Needing one victory to win its first national championship in baseball, South Carolina rallied for a run to tie UCLA in the bottom of the eighth inning, and then won 2-1 on right fielder Whit Merrifield’s RBI single in the 11th.
It was the first CWS championship game decided in extra innings since 1970 and seemed to pack as much drama into four hours, 15 minutes as any game played here during the past six decades.
