Crafting a Meaningful Home is a lovely book with 27 DIY Projects to make to tell your own family stories in decorations. I never really appreciated how important having family traditions are until I realized that in just seven more years my eldest daughter will be on her way to college. Where did the time go? Anyway, this book is an excellent way to stimulate your family’s creativity.
The various projects are ideas from different artists and are based on their own family spirit and traditions. The idea behind the book is to create something with a personal meaning, and the different projects should give you food for thought and ideas on how to tell your own family story.
I love the Family Teepee, which I am sure would be very popular with your children. (It definitely takes up less space than my children’s current building projects that include couch cushions, chairs and lots of comforters.)
The Rope Rug project by artist Jean Lee introduces you to crocheted doily technique, something the author had learned from her mother. Another project that you can adapt to tell your own personal story is The Family Banner made of felt flags with your family members’ silhouettes. Learn about creating a jewelry tree, a gold-leaf lamp, a Folklore Chair and many other exciting home projects.
Overall, this is a great book to give you ideas on how to turn your home into a personal space that holds meaning for you and your loved ones. The book itself is easy to read, comes with step-by-step instructions and beautiful color photographs.
